George Riffle’s Original Rating of Entre nous
"Absolute and utter ripoff.... I come from a very high-end restaurant & hotel background, and when a restaurant that connot deliver food, on time (first courses ordered together but came 15 minutes apart -2 salads?), and other said food (duck confit leg -$27) shows up limp, lifeless, & grossly underseasoned...well, you have a problem.... That's only the start....my message to the owners is this...This is NOT Westhampton in the middle of Summer, folks...and we were not the only table with issues... Horrible value, indifferent service, and a Special occasion not recognized.... Entre Nous is a Money-Grab from start to finish.... We happily left before dessert...."

George, the review reads less like feedback and more like a courtroom closing argument. Yes—if two salads ordered together showed up 15 minutes apart, that’s annoying. And if your duck confit felt limp and underseasoned to you, that’s disappointing. Those are valid frustrations. But jumping from “my dish wasn’t great” to “money-grab from start to finish” is a leap worthy of an Olympic tryout. You’ve got a high-end background. Great. That also means you know a dining room isn’t a factory line, and pacing can get knocked off by one delay, one refire, one server getting pulled into another table’s issue, or a kitchen that’s simply slammed. None of that is glamorous, but it’s not malicious. “Indifferent service is pushing,” too. What you experienced may have felt indifferent; that doesn’t make it a character assessment of everyone working the floor. Sometimes the room is busy and the touchpoints aren’t as polished as you’d like. That’s a miss, not a moral failure. Now the special occasion angle: mentioning a birthday doesn’t automatically trigger a free dessert—especially if no dessert is ordered. A restaurant isn’t obligated to hand out sweets on cue because a celebration is referenced. That’s not how it works in most places, and it’s definitely not a guarantee anywhere outside the corporate chain playbook. You’re free to decide the value wasn’t there for you. But “buyer beware” suggests deception, and what you described sounds more like a night that didn’t meet your expectations, not a trap set for your wallet. Calm down, take the temperature down a few degrees, and chalk it up to a mismatch.

"This restaurant needs to figure out what they are. The only authentic French food we ate was the French bread. The chairs are hard, the tables rock, and guy pretending to be French has to stop yelling across the table."

Gary, you didn’t just leave a review—you staged a one-man coup against our chairs, our tables, and apparently our passports. 😄 Let’s start with the “guy pretending to be French.” You addressed him like he’s doing community theater, but here’s the twist: he’s not pretending. He’s French. Born and raised in France—same as both owners, and most of the team. No accents were purchased on Amazon. No berets were harmed in rehearsal. If you heard French across the dining room, that wasn’t cosplay… that was simply French people being French. 😉 Now, about the food: you say the only authentic French thing you ate was the bread. That’s a bold claim for someone who ordered dinner, but it does at least confirm one thing—our bread is doing its job. 🥖 As for the rest, French cooking isn’t just one lane. Some guests want classic bistro, some want modern French, and some want to be mad at a sauce because it didn’t taste like their vacation in Paris. You clearly had a particular expectation, and you didn’t feel met. Chairs hard, tables rocking—fair hits if that was your experience. Comfort matters, and wobble is never chic. If you’d flagged it in the moment, you could’ve had a fix instead of a fight. You’re absolutely entitled to not like the place. But “faux French”? That’s not critique—that’s fan fiction. 😄

"We've been coming to Entre Nous for years, all the way back to the Eagle Rock days, and it has been incredible watching this place grow while somehow still keeping the exact same soul and authenticity. You can feel immediately that this is not some corporate restaurant group trying to imitate a French bistro -- this is a real small business built by real people who genuinely care. Over the years they've watched our family grow, celebrated birthdays and anniversaries with us, and always made us feel like more than just customers. There's something rare about walking into a restaurant and recognizing the same passion, the same warmth, and the same owners still working hard night after night. The food has consistently been outstanding. The atmosphere feels intimate, romantic, and truly Parisian without trying too hard. Every dish tastes like it was made with pride and attention, and the wine recommendations are always spot on. It's one of those places where you can tell the owners are personally invested in every detail. What we appreciate most is supporting an authentic independent restaurant in a time where so many places feel manufactured or transactional. Entre Nous has heart. You can feel the years of sacrifice, dedication, and love behind it. Pasadena is lucky to have a place like this."

Zen, thank you so much for sharing this. It really means a lot to hear you’ve been part of Entre Nous since the Eagle Rock days and have watched it grow while still feeling like the same place at heart. 😊 It’s special that you’ve experienced not just the food, but the people behind it—the familiar faces, the steady passion, and that warm, welcoming energy that makes you feel known when you walk in. The way you describe birthdays, anniversaries, and your family growing over the years captures exactly what so many guests hope for in a neighborhood spot: something consistent, personal, and real. And thank you for noticing the details—the intimate, romantic Parisian vibe, the pride in each dish, and those wine recommendations that land just right. Hearing that the experience feels authentic (not manufactured) is a huge compliment, because that’s the hardest thing to protect as a place evolves. Most of all, thank you for choosing to support an independent restaurant with heart. Pasadena truly is lucky—and so is Entre Nous to have you. Can’t wait to welcome you back for the next celebration. 🍷✨

"And once again a winner. Nice, cozy, friendly, and most importantly, the food was on point. Everything was delicious and made a great impression to our guests from India. PREVIOUS REVIEW 2: Time and again a great place to have a wonderful dinner in a relaxed and cozy environment, with French style. The staff is always knowledgeable and attentive. The food super delicious, nicely presented, and even though not meant to be shared, they did not hesitate to bring extra plate to do so. PS: just maybe the poster with Depardieu maybe past its best time and would benefit from a replacement. PREVIOUS REVIEW 1: In the space of the former Spanish tapas restaurant "Raciòn", a French cuisine - Entre Nous - conquered the space. Just entre nous, the space has not changed a whole lot, except that there is an Eiffel tower at the entrance and a few French posters on the walls. And nonetheless, the visit for dinner was absolutely worthwhile. The menu was retrievable via QR colde. Start with a simple but delicious Kir Royale, followed by a fresh green salad, a tasty onion soup and a salmon tartare. There were excellent choices for the main course. The Seabass, Duck Breast, and the Rack of Lamb, respectively, were all outstanding, on point, and perfect in texture. Yes, missing Racion, but Entre Nous is a qualified replacement."

Hi Andreas! They’re genuinely grateful for your continued support and for calling it “once again a winner.” You’ve now experienced Entre Nous through multiple visits, and it’s wonderful to hear that the cozy atmosphere, friendly service, and especially the food still deliver every time. “On point” is a great compliment—clear, direct, and exactly what a kitchen hopes to hear. 👨🍳✨ It’s also fantastic that your guests from India had such a great impression. You clearly chose the right place to host them, and your note says a lot about how welcoming the experience felt from start to finish. They also appreciate how you remember the small things—the French-style touches, the attentive team, even the posters on the wall. That kind of detail makes your review extra valuable (and yes, the Depardieu poster suggestion was duly noted 😄). As a thank-you: next time you come to Entre Nous, they’d love to offer you 2 Kir Royales 🥂 Just mention this response on CLAPBAC, and it will be taken care of. Can’t wait to have you back!

"This was our first date night of the year! We made reservations for Saturday night around 6pm. The ambiance was SOO cozy, very inviting. Almost like eating at your grandma's home. It wasn't too busy yet. The restaurant itself is small but perfectly intimate. The service was welcoming & attentive. Our server was amazing. Great recommendations and kind. The food that we tried: -Escargots de Bourgogne 24 French farmed snails in shells, garlic, butter, parsley. This was my husband's first time trying escargot and he loved it ! The snails were perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Entrecôte Au Poivre 62 10 oz ribeye steak, peppercorn sauce, french fries. Juicy steak!! We got it medium, well seasoned, tender. French fries reminded us of a fancy McDonald's haha Short Rib Ravioli 43 Braised short rib, braissage jus, parmesan, sage. Loved the flavor ! Juicy inside. Wish there were more. Légumes du Jour 17 Chef's selection of sautéed vegetables Helped balance and neutralize all of our main dishes. Loved the assortment of different veggies. I loved how well balanced and seasoned everything was. It's hard for me to enjoy restaurant often because of hot salty the food can be but that was not the case here. I enjoyed every dish so much."

Sung H. made a wonderful choice for a first date night of the year, and their details paint such a clear picture of a cozy, intimate evening. It’s great to hear the 6pm Saturday reservation felt calm and welcoming—like a warm, homey dining room. Their shoutout to attentive service and a server with thoughtful recommendations really highlights what makes a night feel effortless. The escargots being a first-time win for their husband is especially fun 🐌, and the medium entrecôte au poivre sounds perfectly executed. The short rib ravioli and légumes du jour rounding things out—balanced, flavorful, and not overly salty—makes this review incredibly helpful. Merci for sharing!

"I waited way too long to come here. Everything from the ambiance, service, wine and food was phenomenal. Plenty of options for everyone. The vibe is lively, yet romantic. The Brie en Croûte au Beurre Blanc and French Onion soup (RIP Oriel in Chinatown) are a must try. Will definitely be returning."

"Entre Nous delivered one of those nights you don't try to top you just let it happen. From the moment we sat down, Julian took care of us like we were regulars, striking that rare balance of attentive without hovering. The owners added to the warmth of the space genuinely welcoming, the kind of presence that makes a place feel personal rather than polished-for show. The sea bass was the standout: perfectly crisped skin, buttery and delicate underneath, resting over earthy lentils that soaked up every bit of flavor. Paired with a smooth Malbec, it all came together effortlessly. But honestly, the best part of the night wasn't just the food or the wine. it was the company. The soft candlelight, a shared table, and her next to me made everything taste better. A spot that feels intimate without trying too hard."

Todd, thank you for such a thoughtful review. The way you described the night—one of those evenings you don’t try to top, you just let it happen—says everything. 😊 It means a lot that you felt taken care of from the start. You noticed the details that matter: Julian’s ability to be present without hovering, and the owners creating a warmth that feels genuinely welcoming—personal, not performative. We’re also glad the sea bass stood out for you. Crisp skin and a delicate, buttery center is exactly the goal, and those earthy lentils are meant to anchor every bite. Your Malbec pairing sounds like the perfect match—smooth, grounded, and effortless. But what really comes through is that the best ingredient was the moment itself: candlelight, a shared table, and her beside you. That’s the kind of experience people remember. When you come back, please mention Clapbac—dessert will be our treat. 🍨🍷
